One monthly goal from Making A Lather

I can't believe it is February already. We have been ill at our house for a spell. I am not feeling very perky. So, As I choose my one monthly goal, I need to keep it easy and still moves my quilting ahead. I decided I would add my rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy for 2020 to the finished pile. I used this pattern row x row . I  started in Jan 2020 with the color of the month. I had the top ready to quilt november 2020. But I have a backlog of quilts that need quilting. My ...

tiny orange scraps from Making A Lather

I had one lonely aqua 16 patch color block from last month for the rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy.

then, I worked on 4 psp 20 blocks in this month's color - orange. I am amazed at how many different oranges there are, but, I was also surprised how few oranges of any size, I have left in the scrap bins.

My Friday group has started making Boho heart by Jen Kingwell. I am doing it in rainbow colors. Part of the fun of a group project is seeing how different all of our hearts will be when finished ...

small piecing from Making A Lather

I made it to our Friday  quilt group yesterday. I was trying to catch up with my sea swept blocks. I made some progress on the diamond part of the sashing.

The weather has been so nice. High seventies and sunshine. I really don't like when the cicadas make the sound of fall coming. The summer has passed so quickly.

I am still working with darks for the tiny houses and the rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy.

I did have 3 aqua ish strips for the psp 20/21 blocks

oops found these on the floor

I have ...

this and that from Making A Lather

I was hoping to get more sewing for the rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy this week, but, it didn't happen. I did have a brown psp 20/21 block finish. But, I haven't searched through scraps yet for more.

I must have cut another set of pink tiny houses. I found a stack of pieces in the box. I made these and ran out of parts for the rest.

I finished the quilting for this quilt for a friend. And put my Aunt Eliza's star on the frame.

I had a mamogram scare but it was ...

a bit of red from Making A Lather

It was easy to grab the 2 inch strip drawer and cut for tiny houses. I did decide to add other colors to the red. If there was a speck of red, anywhere, I cut it.

I am running low on the solids for psp 20/21. I need to take a count and see if I need other colors.

cheerful red from Making A Lather

I hope to follow a plan for working the rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy this year.

1. grab color wire basket and sort

I keep my fabric chunks in wire baskets by color. Some baskets are in tidy shape, others, not so much. Red is in good shape, and still looks tidy.

3. make ongoing rsc blocks

These bits and pieces were just sitting on top of my table waiting to be put away. When I saw that we were using red for May and the rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy, I just sewed them together rather than ...

blue stuff from Making A Lather

After sorting through the 2 gallon zip lock bag of blue scraps and cutting into useable sizes for  the rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy, I had these pieces in the bag that aren't really scraps. They are bigger than 1/4 yard. So, I just folded them and sent them to their homes on the shelves. And, I had the pleasure of an empty plastic bag...... Ready to refill at my leisure.

This week, I decided to build some tiny houses. They are still so fun. I have a million to go before I have a city ...

waffling and blue from Making A Lather

My blue scrap chunk basket is full, but, I have a 2 gallon zip lock bag of odds and ends and leftovers that I need to go through before I cut, hoping there is enough room in the basket for the new.

I had enough blue pieces already cut for the waffle stamp blocks. I did not need to cut anymore, so, I was able to get these sewn quickly for the start of the month for the rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy.

It looks like I really need red, and a little orange for this quilt, and, maybe ...

postage stamp blocks from Making A Lather

I have some interesting greens this month for the psp 20/21 blocks and the rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy. I'm not sure the photos look as green as they are in person.

It doesn't look like I will have a finish for March from my green ufo list, but, I did move Christmas sparkle along to almost a top. I did decide to make and add 3 more blocks to the quilt. I haven't worked on the green brackets for full stop quilt that Angela is doing. And I didn't get the table runner ...

waffling and blue skies from Making A Lather

I overdid the yellow waffle stamp blocks , but, that gets me to a larger number already done for the whole quilt. These are very easy to do and a bit addictive.

One of the Ufos I wanted to do for yellow at rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy, was Bonnie Hunter blue skies from her book string fling. I made the string blocks during a string basket cleaning in 2016. I was string piecing anything in the book I might want to make while I was playing with strings. Last month, I assembled zucherwatte with pink. After reading that I ...

postage stamp fun from Making A Lather

I hope to follow a plan for working on the rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy this year.

1. grab color wire basket and sort

I keep my fabric chunks in wire baskets by color. Some baskets are in tidy shape, others, not so much. yellow is very tidy and nearly empty.  I have a few boxes of scraps stored by color elsewhere. I pulled the yellow out and emptied it into the wire basket. It was still not full. I need to keep my eye out for yellow to purchase. But, I am in no hurry.

2. decide ufo ...

making more blocks from Making A Lather

I have some blocks I have been working on. Other than that, I am still in a decision phase of finishing my February projects. And I need to cut some yellow scraps.

I think I have decided to add a border to my boxy stars quilt - Bonnie Hunter free pattern. I think it will work with a fabric I had in my stash.

to do: work with tiny pieces from Making A Lather

I have been working with tiny 1 1/2 inch squares that are sitting next to my sewing machine. I collect them, until, I think I can make either waffle stamp blocks  or postage stamp psp20/21. I am always amazed at how many are in the stack. The stack of squares doesn't look like much, but it moves 2 quilts along. I have the solid pieces already cut and waiting in a drawer nearby.

pink revisited from Making A Lather

I have two postage stamp blocks - psp20 - my goal is 5 new every month this year. It's hard to tell, but these are 2 different pinks. I bought a honey bun especially for making these blocks, but, it has disappeared. So, I will be scrounging through my limited stash of solids. No problem. Maybe, if I pretend I am not interested in finding it, it will show up again. LOL

I am sewing here and there on my current scrap projects, hoping to make some more progress before the end of the year. Can you believe we are nearly there? What a year.

stash buster and easy breezy

Friday group met, and, I finished all the blocks for country roads. It's time to decide if I want to put it in the ufo closet, or, dream up a layout, and, keep going. Today, I have a sew day, too. I plan on working on my snoopy wiggle quilt and grassy creek mystery quilt clue number 2.

waffle blocks from Making A Lather

As I am making postage stamp blocks, I am playing around with these cute little waffle blocks. They are trimmed to 5 1/2 and take 10 - 1 1 /2 inch squares. I found them to be very fun and addictive.

I decided I would sit and cut a bunch  of 1 1/2 inch strips for the framework. It takes 16 1/2 - 17 inch strip to cut a matching set. I was able to cut 106 sets in one evening. It helps that I have 1 1/2 inch strips already cut. I threw the leftovers back into ...

postage stamp blocks from Making A Lather

I have had a lot of fun making postage stamp psp20 blocks with 1 1/2 inch squares. Many of my print squares were a gift from a great quilting friend. So, I get a smile every time I start a new block. I went through a little bag of scraps, and, every time I found a piece big enough for the solid color, I cut for the postage stamp block. I think I will have a lot of red blocks. It's amazing how many shades of red I have found hiding in the scrap piles.

And, for next ...

rsc yellow ps from Making A Lather

I am starting the month with the tiniest pieces for the rainbow scrap challenge. I am hoping the color is yellow. I had been adding yellow psp20 blocks as I was making other psp20 blocks, if I found yellow in my scraps. Otherwise, I would not have made them, since, I am committing to finishing a quilt before I work on anything else.  So far, it's been a week, and, I have kept that commitment.
Yellow is my official favorite color.

I have already started looking ahead to next year's rainbow scrap challenge, and, decided it will be ...

to do: shine from Making A Lather

I'm still playing catch up from last week. I finished the last Shine blocks that, I had missed during the rainbow scrap challenge.

I had started purple psp 20 blocks and needed to finish them.

It's fall in Indiana. There is a certain blue to our sky that I love. I like the temperatures, but, not the shortening of the day. Hubby has been busy finishing the tomatoes and peppers. And we have another batch of salsa ahead of us. I saw a cute idea for a pumpkin this year, and, we went in search of the perfect ...

postage stamp red from Making A Lather

Little tiny squares and I are having fun in red for the rainbow scrap challenge. Some of the blocks turn out better than others. I don't know if they were not cut accurately or I get in a hurry and sew them too quickly. It's hard to be patient. Each block is different and interesting in it's own way, and, I want to see it.

I was able to sew the red row for the row x row. I have only yellow to go. I plan on putting the rows together soon. I can hardly wait. The ...
